Petrophysics is the study of rock properties and their interactions with fluids, such as gas, liquid
hydrocarbon, and aqueous solutions (Tiab & Donaldson, 1996). The main goal of petrophysical
analysis is to gain an understanding of the volume and distribution of hydrocarbon and water within a
subsurface reservoir. Fluids within a reservoir rock are usually contained in the space between or
within grains or crystals; the pore space.
